SYNOPSIS

Safe Space is the story that chronicles the relationship between Sarah and Amne. Sarah is a key workers in a women's safe house. Amne is a new resident and Sarah's new client. The story begins when the two first meet and ends when they say their final goodbye.

As a woman suspected for being a victim of sex trafficking Amne is allowed to remain in a high risk safe house until the UK Home Office make a decision on her status as a trafficked individual whilst a simultaneous decision is being made on her asylum status in the UK.

Sarah's job is clear - to maintain a professional relationship with Amne, to offer support, help and guidance, to help Amne assimilate to her new environment and to give her the tools she needs to be successful moving forward. The boundaries are set and they're clear. However the emotional toll of avoiding a personal relationship with a client that is coming to terms with such trauma is a challenge for Sarah.

WHY LENS THIS STORY?

WHY LENS THIS STORY?

WHY LENS THIS STORY?

The project has the support of Unseen. They're a leading UK charity for the prevention of human trafficking and the support of victims. Although Safe Space is an independent short film and not made for a charity we're still very proud they have thrown support behind the film. The charity gave us access to one of their safe houses which lead to in depth conversations with key workers. The film not only accurately follows the procedural  elements of a trafficked individual once entered into the system but it also reflects the emotional journey of many experience key workers.
